The Da Vinci Codswallop

Mirror.co.uk - THE DA VINCI CODSWALLOP
I for one really enjoyed this book - in fact I couldn't out it down and read it in a few days. i realised at the time that it was complete codswallop - enjoyable codswallop though (by the way, what is the eytomology fo the word 'codswallop'?) - but i thought it was interesting to read this article about it in The Mirror today (have i given myself away?!). It's not often you find a newspaper commenting on how Jesus was divine after all with proof texts to boot! Hilarious!

Like you, I really enjoyed the book and read it in two days. It's a gripping crime thriller basically, and will make a great movie as a result.

Clearly it's heretical, factually flawed and essentially Brown's tirade against his catholic upbringing. A theologian friend of mine says he essentially nicked everything from one book written 20 years ago claiming all this stuff and has masterfully weaved it together to sounds almost convincing.

And here's the point: for post-moderns with no theological frame of reference it's a more convincing argument than many others, including ours. And for that reason, Christians should and must read it, and also then be able to dialogue with people and help them seperate fact and fiction. This is an application of John Stott's "read the world and the Word" argument.
